MEET THE EXPERT

Ian Pyka
Ian Pyka is the founder and president of Power Play Fitness, located in Coral Springs, Florida. The company focuses on the sports specific and comprehensive training of athletes at all levels as well as any and all motivated individuals interested in improving their overall fitness. Ian is also an adjunct instructor in the Exercise Science and Health Promotion Department at Florida Atlantic University. Prior to this, Ian was the head strength and conditioning coach with the NHL Florida Panthers for four years. He has worked at the University of Tennessee, University of Massachusetts and Tulane University before gaining a position as head strength and conditioning coach with the New England Patriots of the NFL.

 

Ian holds a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology (University of Tennessee, Knoxville) and Bachelors Degree in Kinesiological Sciences (University of Maryland, College Park). He is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has been an invited speaker to many national conferences and has authored numerous articles in the field of strength and conditioning. He is finalizing work on a video series to teach proper mechanics in the Olympic lifting movements for power sports.


Ian's own athletic accomplishments include being named an NCAA Track and Field All-American three times and earning an alternate position on the 1980 US Olympic Track and Field Team (shot put).

 

Ian is the Advisory Board President for the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Reitman Unit in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Ian is also active as a public speaker in the areas of sports specific training, fitness, corporate wellness, and motivation.
